The Plainfield Symphony is thrilled to announce the return of its audience favorite Pops Concert on Saturday November 13, 2021 at 7:00 pm. Under the baton of Maestro Charles Prince, the program will include musical selections from some of Broadway’s most legendary composers as well as several operatic gems and of course, some holiday music. Featured vocal soloists, contralto Alison Bolshoi and tenor Brian Cheney, will bring the songs to life.
The evening will include Rossini’s Barber of Seville Overture, and selections from a number of memorable Broadway shows: Cole Porter’s Kiss Me Kate, George Gershwin’s Porgy & Bess, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Oklahoma and South Pacific, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats and Les Miserables, and Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story. There will be a few additional surprises and well-loved holiday music.
Contralto soloist, Alison Bolshoi is an international opera singer and voice teacher. “Ms. Bolshoi fulfills the Wagner and Verdi repertoire with a vocal radiance and lyricism seldom heard in dramatic voices. Her insightful interpretation of each character makes her presence onstage mesmerizing.” She recently debuted at Carnegie Hall (2018) and then was invited back (2019) with Mid America Productions. Ms. Bolshoi has won the Liederkranz International Competition, Wagner Section, The Gerda Lissner Foundation Award, and she has been honored by sponsorship from several American Wagner associations.
Returning tenor Brian Cheney has been hailed by KUSC Los Angeles as the “next great tenor.” He is a protégé of legendary tenor Jerry Hadley, and has gained international acclaim for his portrayal of major roles in Carmen, Tosca, La bohème, Rigoletto, Lucia di Lammermoor, and I Pagliacci. Following his 2007 debut at Carnegie Hall, Mr. Cheney has performed concert works and oratorios throughout the country. As an accomplished recitalist, he has performed recitals and concerts in the United States and internationally.
Come join us in person to experience the joy of live music presented by the outstanding Plainfield Symphony, Maestro Charles Prince and special guest soloists.
